You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you lost a friend” – Paul Sweeney

From time to time, I go to bookstores and look for a good read. Some of my books are present, some of them are I bought myself. I buy books when I want to get inspired, to learn something new or when I’m just bored.

I have these inspirational books that I kept on re-reading because they have big influence on my life. Not only I have learnt valuable lessons, what else did I get from reading:

  • gives me the knowledge and builds my vocabulary
  • improves my brain and my memory
  • improves my imagination
  • reduces my stress, motivates me and inspires me
  • develops critical thinking

Here are my 5 inspirational books that influenced my life:

chicken soup for the soul
1. Chicken Soup for the Soul; Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen

1. This was the first inspirational book I have read, a long time ago, back when I was still in college. A collection of beautifully written short-stories, inspirational and motivational. Very heart-warming and made me cry and laugh whilst reading it.

After reading this book, It opened my mind about man-kind, especially when I watch the news and see how life could be unfair sometimes. As a young college student who was just expecting pocket-money from parents back then, I started to realise how lucky I was to be able to study at one of the best Universities in the Philippines.

law of attraction
2. Life Lessons for Mastering the Law of Attraction; Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen

2. I got this book to cheer my self up. I was heart-broken and lost. I hated what I was feeling that time so when I heard about this book, I rushed to the nearest bookstore and bought it.

This book is filled with exercises, real-life stories, lessons and key ingredients for mastering the Law of Attraction. It consists of techniques that you can use in your everyday life, to attract all the good things you desire and live a prosperous life.

I know, it sounds silly, but I have been practising most of the techniques I have read from this book and it really works. Ever since I’ve read this book (i have read it 3 times) whenever I’m feeling negative or down, I just revert my mind to positive stuff and be grateful for everything I have.

Secret-Rhonda-Byrne
3.The Secret; Rhonda Byrne

3. I was obsessed with this book. I even watched the film about this. There was one person who introduced me to The Secret. He influenced me big time from where and who I am now. He taught me how to protect my self and be tough in life. To be able to stand on my own feet and speak my mind. I will be forever grateful to him.

The secret is based on the Law of Attraction and whatever your thoughts would be the universe will send it back to you. Basically, what you think about and talk about most is what you will receive more of. This book is a collection of short-stories and miracles.

It taught me how to train my brain to focus on positive things and be more grateful for what I have and where I am in the present. I even made my own visual board and manifested 80% of them.

not give a f
4. The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k; Sarah Knight

4. I saw this video on youtube. And at the same time, I’ve already got this book. At that time, I was so stressed at work and I needed something to help me lessen my burdens at work. So, this book opened my mind and started not to give so much f**k at work, as long as I’m still doing my responsibilities and assigned tasks correctly. I have learnt from this book that you just give a f**k about on what makes you happy and you will be happy.

Magic Formula: TIME + ENERGY + MONEY = F**K BUDGET. These are the things I care about and I am now focusing on and making sure that I’m happy.

I have also learnt about the MENTAL DECLUTTERING which you have to clear out the ANNOY to make room for the JOY. The author mentioned about THE NOT SORRY METHOD which has two methods; STEP 1: decide what you give a f**k about; STEP 2: don’t give a f**k about those things. I just make sure that I’m honest and polite when applying this method so I won’t look like an a..hole.

I also find this book hilarious (the way the author had written this book and a lot of swear words too, lol) but most of all very inspirational. I highly recommend this book.

you are a bad ass
5. You are a Badass; Jen Sincero

5. I haven’t finished this book yet as I left it in my Aunt’s car. I got this book from my recent travel adventure in NY. I found it at Target and it was reduced from $16 to $10 (£8), what a bargain! I also got the You are a Badass in Making Money before this one, but I find this book more inspirational and more personal. More personal, because the author made me feel that she is my friend and giving me a lot of valuable pieces of advice.

By reading this book, I learnt to identify and change the self-sabotaging beliefs and behaviours that blocking me from getting what I want and be at. This book made me take the first baby step of achieving what I really want to do in my life that I have been struggling to figure out for a long time.

Even though I haven’t finished reading this book, I’ve already learnt and applied so many stuff I have read on this book. It made me more confident and realised that I can create the life I have been dreaming of (I’ll get it gradually) by working hard and believing in my self. Yes, I AM A BADASS…

-These 5 self-help/inspirational books had a huge effect on my life. It made me who I am now as an individual, especially the way I see and handle any situation.

Thank you guys for reading. Please come back and read my next blog post.

Love yah,

  1. I love this list! I never did read any of the chicken soup books, but I saw many friends with them in high school. The Secret I will have to add to my must read list.
