“Heaven take thy soul, and England keep my bones!” – William Shakespeare

The travel industry has been hit so hard because of the pandemic. I used to travel abroad a lot at least six times per year. But now we are stuck in a country where we reside.
The UK is a very beautiful country. I told my wife if we can’t go abroad this year and if the travel ban gets lifted within the UK, we should explore and visit some gorgeous places in the UK. In my opinion, UK is much more than London. There are so many things to do and places to see in the UK.

Here are the places on our holiday wish list for when it is allowed to travel after lockdown.

1. YORKSHIRE, England (Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby Abbey)

-I heard about Robin Hood’s bay and became intrigued about it because of Robin Hood. I don’t know much about it, but what I have heard it has small and old-fashioned streets which I am excited to see.

RESEARCH: Robin Hood’s Bay is a small fishing village down by the coast. In the past, used to be home to many a smuggler. In these tiny streets, things like gin, tea, rum and brandy were smuggled to England.

-I also want to see WHITBY ABBEY ruins.

RESEARCH: WHITBY ABBEY is nearly 1400 years old and fell into ruin. Like many other abbeys and monasteries across the UK, when King Henry VIII decided to dissolve them all and use their wealth to fund his conquests.

2. LAKE DISTRICT, England

Lake District is the UK’s newest UNESCO World Heritage site, that I have been dreaming to visit. The whole region has quite a few lakes that I love to see.

RESEARCH: You can hike the local mountains, paddleboard or kayak on the lakes.

3. THE SCILLY ISLES, England

OMG!!! I never thought that there is such a place like this in the UK. I am definitely visiting these tropical islands in the UK in the summer. The Scilly Isles is a tiny group of islands situated around 30 miles or so off the coast of Cornwall. The Scilly Isles benefit from the Gulf stream that brings the lovely warm currents from the Caribbean.

RESEARCH: Either from Exeter, Lands End or Newquay you can fly over to the island taking Skybus or you can take the ferry too. You can explore a few of the islands and find a beautiful stone cottage to rent on one of the islands. You can also rent a bike to go to the bay shallow waters for kayaking or paddleboarding. You can wander at the charming tropical gardens on Tresco Island.

4. SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS, NATIONAL PARKS OF SCOTLAND

SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS they are easiest to visit by car but you can also travel by train and arrange daily tours if you don’t drive. Renting a bike to head into the countryside and enjoy the unblemished landscape.

RESEARCH: For a little more adventurous activity, you can go hiking on one of the well-established trails that criss-cross the region or take a quad bike tour of the countryside.

5. THE COTSWOLD, ENGLAND

THE COTSWOLD, ENGLAND, Imagine rolling green hills, crooked little cottages and cosy little tea-shops to eat as many scones as possible, ah… that sounds heavenly to me. I have been dreaming to visit this gorgeous part of England for ages now.

RESEARCH: There’s a lot of beautiful villages to see here to take amazing photos. Here are some of the villages on my list: BIBURY, ARLINGTON ROW, CASTLE COMBE, BOURTON-ON-THE-WATER, LACOCK, BROADWAY AND STOW-ON-THE-WOLD which are all picture perfect and some of the prettiest places to see in the area.

-So there we have it, we might not be able to visit all of these 5 places this year because of the uncertain situation we have at the moment, but my wife and I will be planning our trips soon, I am so excited already. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog, until the next one.

Lots of Love,

RAINNE
