HOW TO SURVIVE LONG HAUL FLIGHTS

Life is a journey, enjoy the flight..

As I am writing this blog, I am at the airport waiting for my flight to the Philippines and I am flying with Royal Brunei. From London to Brunei is 13 hours and 30 minutes travel. I only got an hour stop over to change plane. Then from Brunei to the Philippines is 2 hours flight. I have booked a night flight so I know that it won’t be hard for me to get a good sleep during the flight.

I think I am already an expert in flying long haul flights. As long as I have my travel essentials and get a good sleep I will never complain and stop travelling long haul flights.

I would like to share with you my tips, tricks and hacks on how to survive long haul flights:

Wear comfy clothes, socks, shoes and no makeup- We all know that travelling can be exciting and hassle too. Especially on long haul flights, it is better to wear comfy clothes, shoes and I don’t wear makeup. I prefer to wear tracksuit bottoms or stretchy ripped jeans, hoodies and trainers. To be honest I don’t care how I look, as long as I’m comfortable and will get a good sleep during the flight.

Carry on bag with flight essentials- make sure you packed all your flight essential on your carry on bag. The more I travel the more I practise travelling light. It doesn’t matter if its long or short haul flights I try to bring just the essentials. (click here to see my pink travel essentials that I wouldn’t travel without). And these are my carry on flight essentials: passport/ID, cash/credit or debit cards, glasses/ sunglasses, medication/food supplements, electronic (mobile phone, kindle, laptop, camera and chargers), toothbrush, toothpaste, lip balm, face cream or oil, sanitizing wipes or gel, water bottle, snacks.

Sleep and get a good rest the night before your flight- Sometimes I fail to do this because I get too excited and I find it hard to get a good rest the night before my flight. What I do, I try to wake up early the day before my flight so on the night before I will get tired easily and get a good sleep.

Have a long shower before your flight- I want to have a very long shower before my flight to make myself feeling clean and fresh. As we all know, we will not be able to do this during the flight.

Take your own water bottle- It is one of my important items to bring. You can bring an empty water bottle (make sure it’s empty before going to the security check) to the airport. You can find a drinking fountain in every corner of any airports to fill up your water bottle. And you can ask the cabin crew to fill it up for you during your flight.

Limit alcohol as much as you can- I know this one is quite tricky as you can get free alcohol in your flight. But we all know that travelling on a plane especially if its a long haul one can dehydrate you and drinking alcohol too. So ditch the alcohol if you can and drink lots of water.

A long flight is exciting because you have so much time for yourself- You can do some tasks you need to do. (write a blog, edit photos, study etc…). So, take advantage of finishing some work you have to do while you have some spare time. I know you should be just relaxing and look forward to your vacation, but would it be so nice to cross off one of your pending tasks before having fun?

Bring a book or a kindle– I, myself love to read and I like using my long spare hours to reading a good book. I used to either buy a new book or reread my old ones. I just recently bought a Kindle just for this trip. As I thought to have a kindle and just to download ebooks are more practical than buying and collecting books.

Book a night flight- As your body clock is still used to your original time zone, it is easier for you to sleep at a night flight. And also, do you know that night time flights are cheaper?

Charged up electronics- You don’t want to miss capturing the lovely scenery on your travel destination, right? So don’t forget to charge up your mobile phone, camera, Ipad and other electronics.

Bring sleep aid/ sleeping pills- If you are travelling at day time or even at night time but you find it too difficult to sleep, sleeping aid/sleeping pills could help you. But make sure to follow the recommended dosages.

So, there we have it! You can make your long haul flight fun and hassle-free if you are all prepared. Do you prefer night time or day time flight? Which travel essentials you bring to make your long haul flight comfortable?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog post. Until my next blog.

Lots of love,

Rainne xxx
