How I Beat The Holiday Season Blues

Do you get holiday season blues too? I found out that it is just normal and some people experience it too, either pre or post Christmas. My holiday depression started when I moved to London. I don’t look forward to celebrating Christmas day. Probably because I am away from home and if I’m being honest celebrating Christmas in the UK is way different compared to my country. In the Philippines, Christmas is more festive. Would you believe, you will feel the Christmas spirit starting in the month of September. Some Filipinos start to put Christmas decorations up and play Christmas songs in September. I know to some people it is ridiculous but for us Filipinos, that make us look forward to celebrating Christmas.

This year I decided to beat my Christmas depression because I realised that I don’t want to be depressed anymore, I want to celebrate Christmas just like how I celebrated it in the Philippines. I used my Instagram Account, I was posting something Christmassy every day. I started my #blogmas from the 1st of December until Christmas day. Sharing my thoughts, my feelings, gratefulness, activities and anything that is related to Christmas. Here is my IG #blogmas post.

01/12/2018- DAY 1: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

Do you get the holiday blues? Since I lived in London, I get depressed in the Christmas season. Probably because I’m away from home. But this year I decided to beat the holiday depression. I had my little pink Christmas tree up and that cheered me up. From today until Christmas day, I will be posting something Christmassy to get over the holiday season blues.

02/12/2018- DAY 2: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

Another reason to be happy this Christmas season is, I have to appreciate the country I am living at. I’m fortunate to be able to live and work here in London. And London is a beautiful city. A wise man said “once you get tired of London, you are tired of life” and I’m pretty sure this is the truest thing ever said.

03/12/2018- DAY 3: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

Today is my rest day from work. I’ve worked 6 days straight so I decided to just chill and relax at home. However, being me, doing nothing at all is strange and impossible. So I’ve done some house chores and wrapped some Christmas presents.

04/12/2018- DAY 4: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

It has been a productive day for me today. I started writing Christmas cards. In an age of digital communication, does anyone still write Christmas cards or letters anymore? Such a shame that we don’t receive handwritten letters and cards from the mail anymore, receiving them makes me feel special and loved.

05/12/2018- DAY 5: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

My friend who I haven’t seen for a while took this photo. I am grateful for having a few good, real and supportive friends, I don’t have a lot of friends here in London. As I grow older I’ve realised that life is not about the quantity of friends you have, it’s the quality of the friends that matter.

06/12/2018- DAY 6: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

Seeing Christmas bauble makes me feel the Christmas spirit. And it reminds me of my imaginary bubble that I have been protecting religiously.

07/12/2018- DAY 7: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

The reason why I decided to post something Christmassy everyday this holiday season is that I choose joy to feel good, do good and to inspire others. Being thousand miles away from my loved ones on holiday season makes me feel blue, but this year I am not allowing sadness to get me no more.

08/12/2018- DAY 8: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

I admit, I love and hate my job. But I’m so grateful that I do have a decent job and getting good pay. There is more reason to love my job than hating it.

09/12/2018- DAY 9: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

My aunt and I decided to go Christmas shopping today. I am grateful that I have an Aunt (here in London) who just not spoils me to rotten but who guides me, looks after me and helps no matter what. I love her to bits and I will do everything for her.

10/12/2018- DAY 10: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

I do agree on this quote. Every year I feel down in the holiday season. But the true spirit of Christmas is how we choose to feel it (in my opinion). And I choose joy.

11/12/2018- DAY 11: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

I can still remember the first day I arrived in London. It felt surreal, exciting and overwhelming. And after a while, I still feel the same but I am more blessed.

12/12/2018- DAY 12: #blogmas

(INSTAGRAM CAPTION):

I got my hair chopped off and dyed too. I didn’t go to the hairdressers, I have done it all by myself, yes I did it! I was so scared to cut my own hair but it’s like getting out of your comfort zone. Of course, it’s not done perfectly but I’m happy and I’ve saved some £££. The ability to take risks by stepping outside your comfort zone is the primary way by which we grow. But we often afraid to take that first step. In truth, comfort zones are not really about comfort, they are about fear. Break the chains of fear to get outside. Once you do, you will learn to enjoy the process of taking risks and growing in the process.
